The Role

As the Senior Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to enable the organisation to achieve its commercial objectives and manage legal risks.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Finance and Insurance, you will:
•Manage legal matters including but not limited to commercial, financial and insurance matters.
•Provide advice to the business on commercial contracts, disputes, consumer claims, finance, insurance, marketing and intellectual property.
•Advise the business in relation to legal and legislative environment and trends that may impact the business.
•Manage contract reviews and execute process in a timely manner.
•Manage the maintenance of the company contract register.
•Review, draft and advise on loan contracts, insurance product documentation and third-party product disclosure statements.
•Instruct third party legal service providers, review advice, documents and process invoices.
•Prepare reports and responses to requests for information as required.
•Other duties and responsibilities as nominated and directed by the company from time to time.

The Requirements

•5 years plus post qualification experience in corporate and commercial law with experience in contracts, consumer law and intellectual property in the Financial Services industry
•Strong knowledge of the Corporations Act and Competition and Consumer Act
•Ideally have knowledge of finance and insurance products, including financial services regulations, ASIC Act, Privacy Act, National Consumer Credit Protection Act, AML/CTF Act, Insurance Contracts Act, General Insurance Code of Practice
•Ability to prioritise and balance outcomes between legal and regulatory requirements and business strategic objectives.
•Strong ability to work with business stakeholders and participate effectively in a team environment.
•Ability to represent the business in legal and regulatory forums.
•High attention to detail and an ability to work autonomously.
